Volunteering at Field Manor Homestead

  Field Manor is a 45 acre historic homestead with a wide variety of volunteer opportunities!  If you are interested in becoming part of our wonderful volunteer base, please fill out and submit the form below.  If there is a specific area of interest not listed on our form, please let us know.  You'll find our current opportunities listed below; the form is a clickable link at the bottom of the page. We look forward to meeting you!

Volunteer Opportunities

Development/Grants

  • Research matching grant opportunities 

  • Outline basic grant timelines and availabilities

  • Research community components of grant application

  • Attend relevant meetings/seminars

Education

  • Field trip assistants

  • Help develop engaging new field trip ideas

  • Create a list of non-school groups that would benefit from trips to Field Manor

  • Contact and encourage high schools about senior projects

​

Gardening

  • Research, development, planting, and maintenance of an historic kitchen garden

  • Tend a produce stand for homestead made products and produce

  • Create interpretive signage to showcase special plants/varieties

Graphic Artist/Designer/Book Designer

  • Transcribed WW II letters to be made into a book. We have a typesetter but need a professional for images

Grove

  • Research alternatives to citrus

    • Heat tolerant

    • Salt tolerant

    • Drought resistant

Historic Preservation

  • Create an artifact inventory list for each room

    • Cross reference with artifacts in PastPerfect database and add if needed; also create an Excel spreadsheet

  • Inventory non-historic item

Housekeeping

  • Cleaning historic home

  • Proper cleaning of historic collection (while performing a condition report on artifact), including the waxing of wood furniture once a year

Membership

  • Work with the Membership Committee

  • Keep membership information up to date in Excel and PastPerfect

  • Contact members twice a year

    • Update members of up-coming events

Museum

  • Museum Docent

    • Establish days to work

    • May require after hour tours

  • Develop ways to keep child engaged during tour

  • Attend bi-monthly Museum of Brevard meetings – Collections and Historic Homes

Partnerships

  • Develop and foster external partnerships

Publicity

  • Create social media posts

    • What is it Wednesday?

    • Artifact Friday

  • Maintain communications with print media

  • Distribute publicity materials throughout Brevard County

  • Timeline of the Field family journey to Florida

  • Timeline of the community of Indianola and showing its relation to other Merritt Island communities and mainland communities

  • Timeline for contemporaneous historic homes of Brevard: Cape Canaveral Lighthouse, Green Gables, Field Manor, Lawndale, Pritchard House, Rossetter House, and Sams House

  • Field genealogy

  • Serve as additional staff

Stained Glass Artist

  • Mount two pieces of window glass from 1882 for display
